Ghanaian actor John Dumelo is lacing his boots to get elected as the parliamentary candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), contesting the seat of the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency in the capital, Accra.
Mr Dumelo picked up nomination forms last week to partake in the party’s parliamentary primaries scheduled for Saturday, August 24, 2019.
The father-of-one successfully passed vetting on Friday, July 26, making him eligible to contest the seat.
John Dumelo will compete against Ms Suzzy Afua Adoboe after Mr Delali Kwesi Brempong, a two-time representative in three parliamentary elections, failed to contest in the upcoming primaries.
In December 2018, the actor cum politician picked up forms to contest the seat after it became vacant following the death of the representative of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko but pulled out later on.
Dumelo shared a campaign poster announcing his candidature a number of days ago writing: “It’s Time For Ayawaso West Wuogon….It’s Time To Listen And Serve The Interest Of The People. It’s Time For Change….I John Dumelo, Humbly Ask You To Support Me On This Journey…..God Bless Ghana. #Takingaction#Gettingresults#Idey4u.Both the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have announced dates for their parliamentary primaries.
The NPP will organise theirs on September 28, 2019.
